Stop Lying to Yourself
"I can't eat that."
"I shouldn't eat that."
"I have to lose weight."
We say these things as though they are facts. They aren't. They are actually lies we tell ourselves and others. The truth is that there is nothing we "can't", "shouldn't", or "have" to do or not do.
Changing the narrative around food and diet will shift your brain to positivity. Instead of "I can't eat that" try "I choose not to eat that". No one is holding a gun to your head and telling you that you can't have something. You are making a conscious choice not to. When you lie to yourself your subconscious knows the truth and will often override the lie and you end up eating when you really didn't want to. Being honest with yourself with what you are actually doing will rewire your brain quicker for the results you want.
"Should" is a trickier word because we tend to think of it as positive but in actuality, it is very negative. When we say we "should" do something we may as well finish the thought with "but I'm not" because that is the reality. If we say "I should eat healthily" then follow it with what that sentence really means, "but I'm not", we will never make the changes we really want. Instead, we can say "I eat healthily". We have to start saying it as we are putting it into practice. A runner doesn't say "I should run", instead they say "I am a runner" or at least "I run". See the difference. Stop "shoulding" on yourself and do what you dream of doing!
The last one, "I have to lose weight" is totally false. You do not have to do anything except die. Everything else is optional. You do not even have to pay taxes. You may end up in jail but that is still a choice you are making. Saying or thinking we "have to" do anything is oppressive and negative. Instead of "have to" try replacing that with "get to". Everything is a "get to". Even if it's going to a job you hate. The funny thing is that when you change your language to this more positive wording you will begin to see a shift in your perspective. Work will eventually stop being the drudgery it once was. Using this with your eating protocol will create a major shift in the way you show up for yourself. If you see a clean plate with protein, veggies, and healthy fats with the perspective of "I get to eat this amazing healthy meal and it is fueling my body to create the positive result I really want.", you will enjoy eating clean so much more and you WILL get the results you want.
Practical Tip: Be really intentional about changing these: "I can't have that" to "I choose not to have that.
"I should" to "I am".
"I have to" to "I get to".
