To get to your goal you must begin to think like the person you are at your goal. That is hard to wrap your mind around which is why I focus on visualizing success. Begin to see yourself as you want to be. Close your eyes and see the future you, goal weight accomplished, living in abundance, thriving. What are you thinking as that person? Are you fantasizing about when you will get to eat cake again? You aren't! This does not mean you will never eat cake again, it means that you don't dream about eating cake. People that are their healthiest, best, most whole self, do not spend time focusing on things that are harmful to their body.
If you do not have a drinking problem you may have a glass of wine at times but you are not anxious about when you will get your next glass. This is freedom. Being able to have or not have something and both are totally fine.
Practical Tip: Sit in a quiet place and close your eyes. Visualize yourself at your goal weight and health. Make sure it is your future self you are seeing and that you are not referencing your past. You will never become someone you have never been unless you think something you have never thought. See yourself in a setting, see yourself thriving as that person. Now imagine the current you having a conversation with the emerging you. What advice do you share from your future self to your emerging self? Practice this as often as possible.
